Brother MFC-680CN ink cartridges 

The Brother MFC-680CN is a colour inkjet printer integrated with additional functions to help increase productivity and ensure efficiency in a small office or home. It is feature-packed and comes complete with direct printing and network-ready capabilities, but its poor overall performance and expensive price may prompt some users to seek other options.

Design

This printer looks like an oversized fax machine with its own telephone handset, a user-friendly control panel, and a flip-up 3.3-inch colour LCD display. The Brother MFC-680CN can print at a resolution of 1200x6000 dpi and uses only 1.5 picoliter ink droplets. To ensure long-term savings, the printer is integrated with the 4-cartridge ink system. It has the company's signature Photo Capture Centre for direct printing capabilities, and it can also be shared by a wired network.

Advantages

The larger colour LCD screen of the Brother MFC-680CN is an improvement from some of the previous models that have small and non-backlit displays. PictBridge makes it easy to print directly from a digital camera, while the media card drives are compatible with memory stick, xD-picture cards, compact flash, and MMC. Users can send colour faxes with the Brother MFC-680CN, and they can attend to other activities while leaving the printer, fax, and copier unattended with the automatic document feeder. It is possible to send and receive faxes using a PC.

Disadvantages

The Brother MFC-680CN is expensive but the price does not justify its overall performance. It is not exactly the fastest printer around, with tests revealing high-resolution photos taking as much as 6.5 minutes to finish printing, although quality looks poor. Images have significant horizontal banding, while the lack of saturation causes pictures to lose vibrancy. The fax modem of the Brother MFC-680CN is only 14.4 Kbps, which tends to be slow, too.
