Customer Questions & Answers

Ask us a question we're happy to help!

  • How does the size of a 1,200 page cartridge for my MFC-J6510DW compare with the 600 page cartridge? Is the actual cartridge bigger on the XL cartridge or will it fit in the same slot as the LC-1240 size?

    Size of MFC-J6510DW cartridges

Thanks for your question, the actual size of the LC-1280XL and LC-1240 cartridges for your Brother MFC-J6510DW are the same. The high capacity LC-1280XL cartridges are just filled with a greater volume of ink than the standard capacity LC-1240 cartridges but they should install in the same colour slot in your printer depending on which capacity you prefer to use.

  • Hi, I have a Brother MFC-J6510DW. The printer cartridges I've been purchasing for it are LC73BK. When I searched on your website for compatible printer cartridges it came up with ones labelled LC1240. Are these compatible? Thanks, Emily.

    Brother MFC-J6510DW printer cartridges

Yes, for a Brother MFC-J6510DW printer that was purchased in the UK you'll need to use the Brother LC1240 or LC1280 range of ink cartridges. However, if you've previously been using Brother LC73BK ink cartridges this suggests that your printer wasn't purchased in the UK and will require different number cartridges. Please ensure that you have a valid UK printer model before ordering ink from Cartridge Save as our MFC-J6510DW cartridges will not work in a printer that was purchased outside of the UK.

Brother MFC-J6510DW Printer Review

Expert review of the Brother MFC-J6510DW printer 03 May 2012

Our Verdict:

Users looking for a multifunction printer that can accommodate large A3 media will appreciate the Brother MFC-J6510DW for its good quality and affordable price. The printer promises more savings with duplex printing, a 4-cartridge ink system, and high-yield inks, but its lack of paper tray options means it cannot handle multiple media sizes and types simultaneously.

Design

The Brother MFC-J6510DW is a large and wide-format colour inkjet printer with a Super G3 33.6 Kbps fax modem, a flatbed scanner, and a copier with a 35-sheet automatic document feeder. It is integrated with the 4-cartridge ink system that uses high-yield inks for more savings. The control panel includes a widescreen 3.3-inch colour LCD display for easy viewing of files from a media card, digital camera, or USB flash drive. Quite heavy at almost 16kg, the Brother MFC-J6510DW is ENERGY STAR-qualified and it has built-in wired and wireless interfaces.

Advantages

The print speed of the Brother MFC-J6510DW is acceptable for an inkjet printer (up to 27 ppm in colour and 25 ppm in black). The printer, scanner, copier, and fax can support tabloid-size media. Its two-sided and borderless printing capabilities save and maximise resources, while the automatic document feeder lets users save time and effort when sending faxes or using the copy function. Users can scan directly to a media card or to their smart phone via the Brother iPrint&Scan feature, and set-up the Brother MFC-J6510DW to a wired or wireless network if required. Luckily, the Brother MFCJ6510DW produces high quality colour output.

Disadvantages

The Brother MFC-J6510DW has only one paper tray that can accommodate one type and size of media at a time. This means tabloid and letter-size paper cannot be loaded together. Text output needs to be slightly darker and crisper to look more impressive.
