Hi, can I use 2 x black ink cartridges instead of 1 x black and 1 x colour cartridge in the Canon Pixma MP460?

  • Unfortunately, you cannot use two black cartridges in your printer at the same time. You may be able to print with just one black cartridge installed, but the majority of printers do require both the black and colour cartridges to be installed in the correct slots and have ink remaining in them in order for you to print anything.

Canon Pixma MP460 ink cartridges 

This all-in-one photo printer is the updated version of the Pixma MP450. Although the Canon Pixma MP460 is still affordable and integrated with direct printing features, Canon failed to improve its scanner and paper handling options.



Design

The Pixma MP460 photo printer relies on the colour bubble jet technology as its printing method with 2 ink cartridges required (1 black and 1 tri-colour CMY). The copier is integrated with auto exposure, borderless, and image repeat features, and shares a flatbed with the 48-bit CIS scanner. Media card slots, PictBridge, and IrDA 1.2 are among the direct printing features of the Canon Pixma MP460. The minimalist control panel of this 15.7kg device includes navigation buttons, one-touch buttons, and a small colour screen for previewing photos.

Advantages

The Canon Pixma MP460 delivers excellent print quality and is known for its affordable initial cost. It comes with PictBridge and IrDA ports, plus media card slots that support an ample selection of memory cards including smartmedia, compact flash, memory stick, and xD-picture card. The print speeds of the Canon Pixma MP460 range from 22 ppm in monochrome and 17 ppm in colour, making it one of the faster entry-level photo printers around.

Disadvantages

There are colour handling problems with Canon Pixma MP460’s scanner, and paper handling is limited because there is only one paper tray. This device is 2 kg heavier and approximately 4 inches larger than its predecessor. The interface of the Canon Pixma MP460 is limited to high-speed USB 2.0 only. It does not support Ethernet or wireless connectivity.
