This inexpensive multifunction printer is a user-friendly and versatile device promising lab-quality photo prints and easy connectivity. Because it is integrated with a scanner and copier, the Canon Pixma MP490 making is an excellent addition to small offices looking for an efficient all-in-one printer. It does have a few minor setbacks, such as the outdated and poorly-designed paper tray and relatively pricey black inks.

Design

The Canon Pixma MP490 looks like a neat box when not in use because you can close the LCD screen and the output paper tray, thus preventing dust from getting in. It has a compact body (13.1 inches in diameter, 17.5 inches wide, and 6.1 inches tall) and is quite lightweight and easily mobile at 13 lbs. It supports a variety of flash memory, including Multimedia Card, SDHC Memory Card, SD Memory Card, and Memory Stick. The copier can produce a maximum of 99 copies and the scanner produces vibrant images and crisp text documents at a 1200x2400 dpi resolution, which can be enhanced to 19200x19200 dpi. Connectivity options include high-speed USB 2.0.

Advantages

Users can connect their memory card directly to the Canon Pixma MP490 to print photos and documents instantly without having to use a computer. Unlike its predecessors, the Pixma MP490 is compatible with Windows 7. The print speed was also slightly improved at 8.4 ppm in monochrome and 4.8 ppm in colour. The LCD screen complements the intuitive and simple control panel. The Canon Pixma MP490 is also quieter compared to other inkjets.
