Expert review of the Canon Selphy DS810 printer

Our Verdict:
star

Easy to operate and very economical to use, the Canon Selphy DS810 is ideal for photo enthusiasts who want a compact device that prints fast and offers good printing options. Though it is designed to be portable, users may find the device impractical to use outside of the home because of its lack of battery option and rather large dimensions. The Canon DS810 Selphy photo printer is compatible with Windows and Mac computers and offers good memory card support. However, print quality has a lot of room for improvement, since it only produces composite blacks from the cyan, magenta, and yellow inks.

Design

The Canon Selphy DS810 mobile photo printer measures 9x9x4 inches. It weighs only about 4.2 pounds, and features a flip-up LCD monitor for previewing photos to print. It can be connected to a computer via a USB port, while additional USB and PictBridge ports are available for direct printing from compatible devices. The Canon Selphy DS810 printer also offers memory card support, featuring 2 card slots that accept different types of memory sticks and flash memory cards. An optional Bluetooth adapter makes it possible to link Bluetooth capable gadgets to the Selphy DS810. An infrared port can be found on the side of the Canon DS810 inkjet printer.

Advantages

The best qualities of the Canon Selphy DS810 inkjet photo printer include its comprehensive print menu, which can be used to adjust photo sizes, cut and trim photos, as well as reduce noise or enhance saturation to create better colour tones. The Canon Selphy DS-810 compact photo printer is also very economical as it uses affordable consumables such as the Canon BCI-16 ink cartridges which contain all four colours in one ink tank and come in twin packs for better value.

Disadvantages

However, the Canon Selphy DS810 photo printer cannot produce excellent black tones. Banding is also evident in prints, and the print heads require frequent cleaning to maintain fine quality of prints.
