Our Verdict:
The Dell All In One 946 is an ideal upgrade from the earlier 944 model, now offering stand-alone fax, and an automatic document feeder. The Dell All In One 946 is a compact device packed with many features suitable for small office use, including a scanner, copier, printer, and fax unit. The machine prints excellent graphics, text, and photographs, and offers an interchangeable 4 and 6 ink printing system. However, it does not offer wireless connectivity.
Design
The Dell All In One 946 integrates an automatic document feeder, flat bed scanner, and fax modem in its design. The control panel shifts to the front, instead of the top panel of the machine, and several memory card slots are still at hand for printing and scanning directly from and to memory devices. The Dell All In One 946 still offers PictBridge Support, and can be used with all major computer operating systems.
Advantages
The Dell All In One 946 offers decent print speeds, averaging 28 ppm for black and white prints and up to 25 ppm for colour outputs. Photos come out in less than 2 minutes. Colour photos and printed graphics reach high resolutions of up to 4800x1200 dpi, while the scanner also produces high res images at 1200x1200 dpi.
Disadvantages
Built for light duty use, the Dell All In One 946 has a monthly duty cycle of only 1,000 impressions and still lacks wireless connectivity.
