Dell All In One V505W Printer Review

Expert review of the Dell All In One V505W printer 16 January 2013

Our Verdict:
Dell All In One V505W

This sleek multifunction device comes with colour printing, faxing, scanning, and standalone copy functions, making it a valuable space and money-saving solution for a small office. It is convenient for photographers because of its high resolution and excellent direct printing options, but some users might find it slow with sub par quality when printing documents.

Design

The stylish frame of the Dell All In One V505W appears boxy, but it is surprisingly compact, measuring 5.8 inches tall, 12.3 inches deep, and 17 inches wide. The device weighs approximately eight kilograms and it includes a colour inkjet engine, digital copier, flatbed scanner, and PC fax machine. The main interfaces are IEEE 802.11g and IEE802.11b for networking and USB 2.0 for direct PC connectivity. The document feeder of the V505W All-In-One printer can handle 50 sheets, while the standard media tray can handle 100 sheets. Up to 50 sheets can be handled by the output tray, which extends from the front cover. There is a small display screen on the control panel.

Advantages

It can be used as a standalone copier. The high 4800x2400dpi resolution ensures very detailed photographs printed as fast as 27ppm. Users can print directly from digital cameras and memory cards. The Dell All In One V505W is network-ready and can easily be configured for wireless set-up. The device supports plain paper PC faxing and offers fax forwarding and a caller ID function. Automatic duplexing is a standard feature in the copier. It is easy to operate the Dell All In One and users can print on a wide range of media types like cards, iron-on transfers, coated paper or transparencies.

Disadvantages

Low paper capacity and non-upgradeable memory make it less efficient for busy offices. There are no ways to increase the media capacity, too. The Dell All In One V505W cannot run in Mac and versions below Windows 2000. Only a limited range of memory cards can be read by the built-in card readers. Text quality is mediocre.
