HP Deskjet 9800d ink cartridges 

The HP Deskjet 9800d is a good choice for home users and small offices seeking an inexpensive inkjet printer that can support medium format media and produce good-quality greyscale and colour photos. It is not spared from common issues such as poor print speed and expensive replacement inks, though.

Design

A slightly improved version of its predecessor, the HP Deskjet 9800d is bulkier with a height of 7.3 inches, a depth of 19.7 inches, and a width of 22.6 inches. It weighs 28.7 lbs, which is rather heavy for its compact size. Connectivity options are quite limited; it needs to be wired via an outdated 4-pin USB Type B, a 1.0xParallel, and Ethernet for data link protocol. The HP Deskjet 9800d is capable of duplex printing.

Advantages

The main selling point of the HP Deskjet 9800d is its ability to handle larger media, including 13x19 papers and tabloid-sized sheets. The duty cycle of the printer is 5,000 pages, so it takes quite a long time before it needs resetting by a professional. The maximum resolution for colour prints is 4800x1200 dpi. The HP Deskjet 9800d also comes with the HP PhotoREt III image enhancement technology.

Disadvantages

The compatibility of the Deskjet 9800d is limited to older operating systems such as Windows 2000, XP, and NT, and Apple MacOS X 10.1. Another major drawback is the speed, which is attributable to the slow processor and limited 32MB RAM. At normal mode, it only prints 6ppm in black and half a page per minute in colour. Overall, the quality of prints is average for an inkjet printer. It can be a hassle to print lab-quality photos using the HP Deskjet 9800d because you have to swap cartridges.
