HP Photosmart 2100 Printer Review
Expert review of the HP Photosmart 2100 printer
26 February 2014
Built for everyday photo printing needs, the HP Photosmart 2100 is an all-in-one device suitable for the small office of a discerning photographer. Its price and features make it a good option, too, but HP may need to update its software and many other aspects to improve its actual performance and make it more efficient and reliable.
This straightforward printer has a clear box-type body that weighs 17.2 pounds and is 8.7 inches tall. It is slightly compact at 14.6 inches deep and 18.2 inches wide. HP gave it an 8MB RAM, so it can only print as much as 14 ppm in monochrome and 10 ppm in colour when in 'draft' mode. The HP Photosmart 2100 has a small display screen on top of the user-friendly control panel. The flatbed scanner lies to the left of the controls, and the paper feed and output tray are right below. Users can scan in 1200x2400 dpi resolution and copy at up to 1200x1200 dpi in colour.
Even without upgrades, the HP Photosmart 2100 can already produce good picture and graphics quality. Users with more demanding photo printing jobs can upgrade to the 6-ink cartridge option, which delivers true-to-life colour. Online customer support is widely available. The HP Photosmart 2100 is also budget-friendly.
While the HP Photosmart 2100 is an all-in-one device, it is not the fastest. Scan quality is average. It seems to have problems detecting the actual ink levels and it is still prone to paper jams because of the badly-designed paper feed. On the whole, the HP Photosmart 2100 tends to breakdown easily and never lasts as long as more expensive models.
