  • I purchased a HP Photosmart 470 series printer in New York and cannot find anything listed here in the UK for that number. I'm trying to buy a new HP 97 cartridge. Can you give me any advice about getting one here in the UK?

    Ink for Photosmart 470 series

Unfortunately, you may struggle to find the cartridges you need in the UK. Like DVDs, printers have region codes depending on where in the world the printer was purchased. The cartridges that we stock are only recommended for use in printers purchased within the UK and they will not work in American printers. You would need to find a company that can supply the same number cartridge you have been using previously, or if you contact HP directly they may be able to supply this. Please see the link below to HP's website for more information about region codes and how to change them:

HP Photosmart 475 Printer Review

Expert review of the HP Photosmart 475 printer 02 March 2012

Our Verdict:

Serious photographers who need a good quality printer should consider the HP Photosmart 475 because of its high-quality output and compatibility with more paper formats. It is integrated with various features that make connectivity and photo editing easy, but HP needs to improve its ink system, which causes printouts to smudge when exposed to moisture.

Design

The HP Photosmart 475 is designed to be a portable printer that lets users print snapshots and professional digital photographs any time. It is a tech-savvy device that weighs only 3.3 lbs. There is a swivelling 2.5-inch preview screen for ease in viewing pictures, especially when loading them into the printer via PictBridge. This printer also has a wider paper output slot, enabling it to handle prints as large as 4x12 and 5x7 inches. The HP Photosmart 475 uses a thermal inkjet system and high-yield Vivera ink cartridge.

Advantages

PictBridge lets you print pictures directly from your digital camera, so you save time. It is also possible to print directly via Bluetooth and from your CompactFlash, SD Memory, xD-Picture Card, and Memory Stick, as long as they are compatible with the 4 built-in card readers of the HP Photosmart 475. This printer has a generous 1.5 GB internal storage. You can copy as many as 1,000 pictures into the device. The HP Photosmart 475 also lets you print frames from videos and assign predefined keywords to pictures in the hard drive so you can sort them out easily later.

Disadvantages

One of the major drawbacks of the HP Photosmart 475 is its ink system, which make pictures prone to smudging. The consumables for HP Photosmart 475 (including the optional ink for greyscale prints and HP photo paper) are expensive, too.
