  • How can I get a printhead and what can be the commonest cause of printhead problems with the HP Photosmart C5280 printer?

    HP C5280 printhead

Unfortunately, we are unable to supply the printhead for this printer. I would recommend contacting HP directly and hopefully they should be able to help further. As we do not sell the printers we are unable to advise on any common faults that occur with particular models.

  • Are the 350 / 351 and the 350XL / 351XL cartridges fully compatible? Can I replace the empty 350 and 351 with 350XL and 351XL?

HP Photosmart C5280 replacement ink cartridges

Yes, the HP Photosmart C5280 can use any combination of these cartridges, provided that you have one black and one colour cartridge installed. The XL cartridges are simply a higher capacity version of the 350 and 351 and should work in the same way. The only difference being that they have more ink inside and will last longer.

  • Can I feel confident if I buy the alternative to the genuine HP C5280 replacement cartidge? What is the downside, if any?

    Buying compatible Photosmart C5280 ink

There's very little difference between the performance of our compatible HP Photosmart C5280 ink cartridges and the HP original ink cartridges. Our compatible HP C5280 ink cartridges are strictly checked and tested to ensure that they produce high quality prints and they're fitted with the correct chip so they can be installed directly into your printer without any problems. In the unlikely event that you're ever unsatisfied with the quality or reliability of our compatible Photosmart C5280 ink then we'll give you a full refund. An occasional downside of using any compatible ink cartridge can be that they don't always report the ink levels accurately but this shouldn't affect your printing or your ability to use up all the ink within the cartridge, you should ignore any low ink warnings and print until the cartridge runs out.

  • I've got a Photosmart C5280 printer but l can't get the cartridges in South Africa with numbers 350 and 351. I wanted to know if there are any other different cartridge numbers which l can use? Regards, Noel.

    HP Photosmart C5280 cartridge numbers

It depends on where you purchased your HP Photosmart C5280 printer as to which cartridge numbers it can accept. Like DVDs, ink cartridges are specific to the region in which the machine was purchased. For UK bought HP C5280 Photosmart printers you need to use HP 350, HP 350XL, HP 351, HP 351XL, HP 348 or HP 100 cartridges as listed on our website. The cartridge numbers used in South Afric are different so you'll need to contact HP to find out which numbers are used in this region if you bought the printer over there. If your HP Photosmart C5280 printer was purchased in the UK and you've moved to South Africa and are now stuggling to buy the correct cartridge numbers (HP 350 / 351) then we advise you to contact HP directly so they can change the region code on your printer so that it will accept the cartridge being sold in your region as we only deliver within the UK.

HP Photosmart C5280 Printer Review

Expert review of the HP Photosmart C5280 printer 26 February 2014

Our Verdict:

The HP C5280 is a versatile, multifunction printer that can handle a range of media from plain paper and card to a CD or DVD and labels. The C5280 inkjet printer accepts most major memory cards, allowing you to print directly. Unfortunately, the lack of PictBridge support and only a single USB PC connection does bring it down and could pose problems for both home and office users.

The stylish C5280 has a 6 cm colour LDC display and a functional 11 button control panel that provides access to a variety of print functions and even allows the end user to print directly from a memory card. The paper feed system is similar to other HP all-in-ones with its front loading input tray, capable of holding 125 sheets. There's also a CD or DVD disk tray for direct printing.

For an entry-level all-in-one, the C5280 has a lot of things going for it. It's rammed full of features and has a great spec when you compare to similar devices on the market. Quoted print speeds of 32 ppm and 24 ppm for mono and colour draft are a tad farfetched, expect nearer to 12 and 10 for normal quality which, for a home device, is pretty nippy.

The print quality of the C5280 is disappointing especially when it comes to text documents. Characters appear fuzzy with signs of fading; this only gets worse when using the copier. Photographs also cause the HP C5280 inkjet printer problems, especially when printing in draft or normal mode. HP needs to also look at USB and PictBridge support if it wants the C5280 to be a versatile home device.
