Aimed at home users seeking lab-quality output and fast print speeds, the HP Photosmart D7163 is an intelligent printer integrated with HP's Vivera Ink system. It offers efficient connectivity options for direct printing. But despite being an improved version of a predecessor, it is noisy. Windows 7 users experience difficulty in installation and set-up.

Design

The HP Photosmart D7163 looks a lot like the Photosmart D7160, with similar dimensions and about the same weight (17 lbs), but it has better borderless printing features. It also comes with an automated photo output tray and uses the HP Thermal Inkjet Technology integrated with HP Vivera Inks for long-lasting, lab-quality photo prints. There is a user-friendly control panel on the top front of the HP Photosmart D7163, plus a 2.5-inch display screen that can be flipped up.

Advantages

The HP Photosmart D7163 prints photos at a significantly faster rate than the previous model because it can now handle as many as 1.2 ppm instead of less than 1 ppm. The new ink system is more efficient and budget-friendly, while the presence of PictBridge and 4 memory card readers allow direct printing.
