Kodak Hero 9.1 Printer Review
Expert review of the Kodak Hero 9.1 printer
This feature-packed multifunction printer promises excellent connectivity so you can print documents and pictures even while on-the-go. The Kodak Hero 9.1 is praised for its affordable inks, improved software, and lab-quality photo prints, but its speed remains slow, like its predecessors.
Design
The Kodak Hero 9.1 looks similar to older models in the same line, with a large rectangular chassis and a matte finish, except that it has an additional brushed metal effect. Kodak retains the 2400 dpi CIS scanner, which can be enhanced to 24-bit 9600 dpi, but added a 33.6 Kbps fax machine to the printer. The body's focal point is the large 4.3-inch colour LCD touch-screen display. Kodak made the Hero 9.1 compatible with Google Cloud Print and Kodak Pic Flick apps so users can easily print from their tablet PCs and smartphones. There are memory card slots, too, for PC-free printing.
Advantages
Users can rely on the Kodak Hero 9.1 as a standalone copier and device for sending emails. It has Ethernet and Wi-Fi , so it is easy to integrate in a small network. Affordable inks promise low cost per page when printing. The Kodak Hero 9.1 is also praised for its duplex printing capabilities and automatic document feeder. It is also possible to print directly from a PictBridge-compatible camera.
Disadvantages
Speed is the number one flaw of the Kodak Hero 9.1 because like previous models from the Hero line, it is still sluggish at only 5.5 ppm in colour and 8.5 ppm in black. The cartridge system is a little outdated since it uses combined colour ink technology, which makes the quality of text and photo output inconsistent. The Kodak Hero 9.1 is supposedly designed for small offices, but its low paper capacity makes it more suitable for personal / home use.
