Lexmark X2240 Printer Review

Expert review of the Lexmark X2240 printer 29 May 2012

Our Verdict:

Colour printing, scanning, and copying can be done by a small office or a busy household using the Lexmark X2240. This all-in-one entry-level device is good for basic office applications on a variety of media, but has been discontinued by Lexmark and criticised by users for its sub-par speed and mediocre quality.

Design

This compact device weighs 4.1kg and measures only 163mm tall, 308mm deep, and 445mm wide. The standard input capacity is good for 100 pages of standard paper, and PC connectivity is possible via high-speed USB 2.0. The Lexmark X2240 is integrated with thermal inkjet technology that uses the 4-colour inkjet system. The flatbed CIS scanner is located on top of the small control panel to the right-hand corner.

Advantages

The Lexmark X2240 multifunction printer supports many types and sizes of media, allowing users to get creative with their printouts and colourful projects. The X2240 is fairly quiet and does not emit disruptive noise. Black ink is a standard, so users do not need to swap ink cartridges. The Lexmark X2240 is also praised for its high resolution printing at up to 4800x1200dpi in colour and 2400x1200dpi in monochrome, which makes text look sharp and crisp.

Disadvantages

The Lexmark X-2240 may not be the best colour printer because of the photo print quality and the sluggish print speeds at only 7ppm in draft colour. Text print speeds are average, clocking in at only 13ppm in black-and-white. The scanner's quality could use improvement, too, and the copier could be faster. The Lexmark X2240 inkjet printer cannot be shared by a small group because of the absence of built-in networking options.
