Lexmark X2510 Printer Review

Expert review of the Lexmark X2510 printer 29 May 2012

Our Verdict:

Users who need an affordable and no-frills multifunction device can consider the Lexmark X2510, which is aimed at small offices. The X2510 by Lexmark is lightweight and surprisingly compact. Users have the option to upgrade to the 6-colour photo printing colour technology if they want to use the X2510 for producing lab-quality images. Unfortunately, speeds are mediocre and the device could use a better copier.

Design

The Lexmark X2510 multifunction printer measures 175mm tall, 293mm deep, and 430mm wide, so its small footprint makes it suitable for small or cramped desktops. It is a thermal inkjet printer with a colour scanner built around it. This flatbed scanner also acts as a copier when the device is connected to a PC. The Lexmark X2510 works with thermal inkjet print technology and the standard 4 colour system. It is fairly easy to operate the device with minimal controls on-board, and most configurations can be carried out on-screen.

Advantages

Media handling is versatile enough with the Lexmark X2510 printer so users can count on it to print on transparencies, index cards, and photo paper reliably. Printing in draft mode is fairly fast at up to 22ppm in monochrome and 16ppm in colour. Images are less pixelated because of the high 4800x1200 dpi colour print resolution, while text documents look neat and sharp at 1200x1200dpi. The Lexmark X-2510 only weighs 4.73kg, so it is fairly light and easily transportable.

Disadvantages

The colour copier is very dependent on PC connection, so it cannot be used as a standalone device. The Lexmark X2510 lacks networking options and can only be used by a single PC. Only a single USB 2.0 port is present in the device, and it is not PictBridge certified. Upgrading to the optional 6 colour photo printing can be expensive. All in all, the Lexmark X-2510 is an entry-level multifunction printer that is good for the basic low-volume printing needs of an office.
