Anti-Trust Clearance Provided to Canon for Oce Acquisition

Canon’s acquisition of Oce is hitting the headlines more often than not. The US government has cleared the anti-trust deck for the deal to go through.

The Japanese photography and printing major had bid to acquire 70% shares of Oce NV at 8.6 euros each earlier last month. Stakeholders of Oce had given the go ahead sometime last week.

Canon has captured the home printer segment for some extent but the same cannot be said of its office market. Canon printer cartridges produce the best of photographs in today’s market. Oce NV is a specialist in large format printers and professional printers, and this addition in Canon’s quiver can take it places it has never been before.

Commenting on the anti-trust clearance provided, a joint statement by both companies read – “The anti-trust procedure in the U.S. is in this way completed.”

The waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, as amended, in the United States had expired on December 18 without a second request, while the clearance from the European Union, Swiss and Taiwanese competition authorities are yet to be obtained.
