One of the leaders in laser printing, Brother, have launched a new monochrome laser printer recently – HL-5340D. The printer is mainly aimed at small to medium offices.

The printer delivers a best print of 2400 X 600 dpi and is powered with a 300MHz processor. It comes with 16MB standard memory which can be upgraded multi-fold up to 528MB.

Printing speed is top notch at 30 pages per minute for a draft print. Not many laser printers can replicate this feat. Speed drops considerably during duplex printing to 13 sides per minute.

While the whole world is going gaga over Instant On technology in laser printers, Brother has stuck to its traditional routine of printer warm-up time, and for this printer, it’s not too bad at under 9 seconds.

Surprisingly, Brother has stuck to the now-obsolete parallel port on this printer, along with a USB 2.0. Standard network option is missing, which could be crucial for the product success.

The HL-5340D printer is available in all leading retailer stores and is estimated to cost around £180.
