Brother MFC-9440CN: Multi-Function Colour Laser Printer
Japan based Brother corporation’s last year launch, MFC-9440 is a printer that has power-filled features packed into it. It’s a multi-function colour laser printer that can additionally scan, copy and fax. It’s targetted at homes, home offices and medium sized work groups. It’s an ideal printer if you are looking for a printer for your ever growing needs.
The printer offers a best resolution of 600 X 2400 dpi. It comes with a standard memory of 64MB that can be extended up to 576MB. Mobility is probably the one thing that the manufacturer didn’t look at as this monster weighs close to 40 kilograms. Paper capacity is probably on the lower end with 250 sheets but can be optionally extended up to 500 sheets. Printing speed is above average at 20 pages per minute for both monochrome and colour. Monthly duty cycle is at a decent 35,000 prints.
9440CN connects to a standalone system through the USB port and to wired networks through Ethernet port. Lack of Wi-Fi functionality is notable. It even poses a PictBridge for direct printing through digital cameras. Direct printing is also possible through USB drives.
The integrated fax machine operates at 33.6kbps and is capable of beaming a page every 2 seconds. Optical scanner resolution is at 1200 x 2400 dpi and can scan to various output media such as e-mail, OCR, USB amongst others. The copier offers a best copying resolution at 1200 X 600 dpi with enlargements up to 400%.
The Brother MFC-9440CN is expected to cost around £300 which is average for a printer with the features as offered.
