CADSpan Releases a 3D Printing Plug-in for Google SketchUp
Google SketchUp is probably one of the few gizmos that are getting more popular on a daily basis. For those who aren’t aware of SketchUp, it’s a software that allows users to create 3D models, similar to the olden days of 3D Studio Max and Autocad.
Leader in 3D printing solutions, CADspan has introduced a new plugin for SketchUp that powers users to generate 3-D models from 2-D computer renderings.
Just as a .doc file represents a word document, .stl file is used by 3D applications for 3D printing. CADspan’s plugin allows users to easily convert non 3D printing files into .stl files.
Tasha Danko, the media rep for SketchUp wrote on Google blog – “Our friends at CADspan just released a plug-in that allows for the generation of solid, 3-D printable files directly from a Google SketchUp model,”
“This software re-creates a model by ’shrink-wrapping’ it with one continuous mesh. The result is a single object, in STL file format, that is completely solid and ready to print.”
With effortless conversions of renderings into 3D models, the concept and hence 3D printers have the gate pass to reach new heights. It will make 3D printers a-must-have gadget to the public eye. We believe that this is just the start, with more companies jumping in the fray, the open source market will be wide open for a plethora of developments.
