Canon Pixma MP980 for Lab Quality Photo Prints

by Abhinav Kaiser on December 2, 2008

Canon is the unquestioned leader in photo printing and their latest product, Pixma MP980 offers lab quality photo prints at a lightning quick rate and a host of other features. Moreover, it’s a printer that can scan and copy as well.

This latest Canon offering leverages upon ChromaLife100+ system for the quality of output. The output resolution is 9600 X 2400 dpi; not many other manufacturers can match this resolution.

The system consists of six individual cartridges, including an additional grey ink tank that delivers superior-quality monochrome photo prints. A LED placed on these cartridges give you an indication if you are running low on ink or empty. This LED technology is fresh; we can’t wait to get our hands on this bad boy.

Canon claims that the printer takes around 20 seconds to deliver a lab quality 10×15cm photograph. Other leading photo printers including the previous Pixmas take close to a minute for the same job. If the claimed rate is true, even partially, we are bound to see a new generation of printing speeds for photographs. Monochrome printing speed is at 26ppm while colour at 21ppm.

Other features that provide the finishing touches to this product are 8.8cm TFT display for image viewing and PC-free printing, automatic duplex printing, and the options of printing on various sized papers including CDs and DVDs.

Like most printers today, the MP980 can be connected over a wired network and also be tapped through Wi-Fi. USB port is additionally provided to be used with standalone computers.

This Canon inkjet printer probably has all the qualities that a consumer might want. If a company can provide all top notch features, there is no reason why they shouldn’t put a high price on this product. This printer carries a price tag of £279 which is expensive but if it turns out that the claimed results are true, this printer is totally worth every penny.
