Canon probably has the rare distinction of manufacturing printers that resemble household items that we use on a day-to-day basis. Last year, we saw the popular bucket printer – Selphy CP770 and this year, we have a printer that looks like a boombox with a big handle across it, the Selphy ES30. It’s a compact photo printing solution which is targetted at home users in particular.
The printer offers a best printing resolution of 300 x 300 dpi with a gradation up to 256 levels per colour. This Canon inkjet printer is strictly a photo printer, with printing possible only on postcard sized cards or smaller.
Speed of printing is never a strong point for Canon, but the quality is. Each 4” X 6” photograph takes around a minute to print at its maximum resolution.
With Canon, users can be easily spoilt for choices with the options it presents for connectivity. This printer can hook onto a PC through a USB port, and can operate sans PC through PictBridge and memory card reader that is compatible with up to 20 media card types. Optionally, a Bluetooth unit is also available to avail sources through cell phones and other Bluetooth operated devices.
A large 3” LCD screen at the front along with a host of easy controls make up the body of the printer. The system comes with auto colour correction firmware .
A notable absentee in Selphy ES30 is a portable battery unit that could have made it a truly mobile printing solution.
The printer is available for purchase at under £100 which is a decent price for a great product.
