Epson has pledged support to open source developers in sharing their technology to ensure maximum application development for Epson printers. ESC/P-R library is the open source development kit that is used worldwide by developers for smart phones and other capable devices. Epson insists that their aim is to come out with a universal print driver that would be applicable for all their printers.
This development kit can be used with Epson printers and it supports every media type, paper size, Epson ink levels and associated printing mode available on those products. It is basically a medium through which third party devices can interact with Epson printers.
This is not a new technology. It has been employed earlier to support Epson printers for iPod, iPhone and Android products.
Epson’s iPrint and Microtech’s ePrint are some apps that exist and they can be downloaded from the iTunes app store. For Android, it is CyPria app from Cycom.
All Epson printers that come with Wi-Fi are capable of supporting these applications, as of now.
