Epson’s New PictureMate looks to Charm

picturemateAfter a long lull, Epson has launched a new printer in its PictureMate series with PictureMate Charm. The manufacturer tries to improvise over its predecessors through long lasting lab like quality at an economical price. The printer is compact in size and solves the perennial space problem.

The device is mounted with a 2.5″ LCD to view images prior to printing, navigate through the menu and to edit photographs using the embedded applications.

Highest print resolution is impressive at 5760 X 1440 dpi and printing speed is pretty average at 37 seconds per borderless 4″ X 6″ photograph.

The Epson PictureMate Charm hooks onto systems through the ancient USB 2.0 and supports all popular memory cards. Bluetooth is offered optionally. PictBridge is also available. The lack of Wi-Fi will be a setback for this printer even before it launches itself in the market.

Epson claims that postcard prints cost around 15p which is not bad if the claim ends up being true, even if there is a 5% variation. The printer itself is inexpensive at under £100. The hope is that the Epson ink is priced economically with individual tanks.
