HP has been known to keep the size and cost down by incorporating various latest techniques such as the two-ink cartridge bay into the middle section of the multifunction printers like Officejet J4680. This prevents the need of adding a completely separate drawer just for the heck of storing ink.
Separate drawer just for ink storage isn’t that good an idea; but at the same time it is essential that the printer pulls out the color ink from various cartridges rather than just one particular color. And, the HP-901 fails to deliver the goodies in this aspect; it sucks the ink just from a particular color, and doesn’t contribute to cost savings, as opposed to the replaceable inks.
The HP Solution Center included with the driver keeps a track of the remaining ink levels, and displays the same to the user. However, when you try to discover the goodness of the HP 21 ink cartridges, you’ll realize that the actual saving comes from low consumption of colored ink. If you try to do a test run with a completely new ink cartridge, and take several colored print outs, you’ll be amazed to discover that the color ink levels will come down negligibly, though at the cost of high amounts of black ink consumption.
Therefore, irrespective of the individual capabilities of the color printer you purchase, you’ll get great value for money with the HP 22, and HP 21 ink cartridges for sure. Last but definitely not the least; print quality of these ink cartridges is very good, and the cost per page print is fairly low.
