HP Printer Prices Stay Put; but PCs and Servers to Rise

HP LogoThe falling pound against the US dollar is facing its first victim with HP increasing the prices of PCs and Servers with immediate effect. Adding the margins of resellers, retailers and other middlemen, consumers may end up shelling out 10 percent more come October.

However, the prices of printers and storage solutions have not been disturbed. The probable cause in case of printers could be the already existing fat margin HP enjoys and for now, the company is ready to absorb lesser profits.

Dave Poskett, HP director of the solutions partner organisation in the UK and Ireland said – “We looked at and the cost of doing business for all the business units and at this stage it has been determined there is a requirement to raise prices for ISS and PSG, but not for the Imaging and Printing Group (IPG) or storage,” he told CRN.

The rise in prices could also smell strategy written all over it with the holiday season round the corner.
It is assumed that other manufacturers such as Lenovo, Acer, Toshiba among others could follow suit in the price war. On a contradicting side, enterprise solution developers Oracle, VMware and Citrix had raised prices last summer owing to a weak dollar.
