The story and expansion of inkjet technology in supporting and developing other products in an unending one. Epson has now stated that the inkjet technology will be used in the creation Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) TVs. If the claims turns out to be true, it will revolutionize the world of television.
OLED technology is considered most superior over others. It offers the best visuals with high contrast, wide viewing angle and fast response time. OLED TVs are not bulky and boast of consuming low power.
“Large-screen OLED TVs are the future of displays, and Epson is committed to contributing to the transition to volume production through research and development projects involving inkjet fabrication technologies,” stated Satoru Miyashita, General Manager of Epson’s OLED Development Center.
Although the OLED technology has been known for years, implementation had been a problem. Depositing organic material reliably over the substrate could not be achieved. Epson has cashed in with it’s micro piezo inkjet technology. The company claims that the organic layers can be deposited reliably with utmost precision. Yes, we have seen that printers do have an accuracy level of forming droplets of 1pl size.
Epson will unveil a 14″ prototype at the Society for Information Display (SID) 2009 at San Antonio, Texas on the 2nd of June. The prototype is touted to have a resolution matching a 37″ full HD display.
