Kodak launch new HERO range of printers

Kodak Hero PrintersKodak has introduced a new range of multifunction printers that let users print documents and photographs anywhere in the world, from anywhere in the world, wirelessly.

How is all this possible?

Well, firstly, everyone involved has to be connected to the internet. More particularly, both sender – the party with the document – and receiver – the one with the printer – need to be users of Google’s Cloud Print application. (If you want to know more about this technology see our web based printing article).

And finally, the printer involved needs to be one of Kodak’s new HERO machines.

Note, if you please, what has not been mentioned to this point: PCs, drivers, and printer cables. They are all unnecessary.

Every one of these printers, in essence, has its own email address. If you know the machine’s address, you can use it to print. Even if you’re a continent away. You can give your printer’s email address to friends and colleagues and they can use it too, no matter where they are.

Afraid of running out of paper or ink? Kodak has covered that with their Smart Sensor feature. This technology identifies paper, sizes and inks available on the machine and then predicts supplies and time needed to complete a job, automatically.

Kodak Hero 6.1

The Kodak Hero 6.1

The four new Kodak printers will be the HERO 5.1, the HERO 7.1, the HERO 9.1 and the OFFICE HERO 6.1. All use Kodak’s proprietary pigment-based inks that Kodak claims can dry instantly and are smudge, water and fade resistant and are long lasting. All can print directly from memory cards, including SD, SDHC, Multimedia Card (MMC), Memory Stick (MS), Memory Stick Pro (MS PRO) and mini SD/micro SD with an adapter.

The HERO 5.1 and 6.1 printers are compatible with Kodak’s 10 series ink cartridges only, while the 7.1 and 9.1 machines take 30 series inks.

The 5.1, 7.1 and 9.1 all have a print resolution of 9600 dpi, while the 6.1 prints at 4800 dpi. Borderless prints can be made from 4×6 inches up to 8.5 x 11 inches.

The scanner on the 5.1 is a 1200 dpi optical scanner, while the 6.1, 7.1 and 9.1 use a 2400 dpi optical scanner.

The 7.1 and 9.1 printers feature a touch-screen user interface, while the OFFICE HERO 6.1 includes automatic two-sided printing, copying, scanning and faxing.

Groomed and market-ready

Every Kodak printer on sale today comes bundled with software which includes the company’s Perfect Page feature to correct and improve scanned images. The software also allows for 3D photo printing, printing scenes from video files, and printing directly from Facebook, Kodak Gallery, Picasa, Flickr and Photobucket.

The UK price for the Kodak HERO 9.1 will be £199 RRP. The company’s recommended UK price for the HERO 7.1 is £169, while the OFFICEHERO 6.1’s is £169 and finally the Hero 5.1’s is £99.
