Lexmark Prevail Pro705

Pro705Lexmark has announced the arrival of Prevail Pro705, a multi-function colour inkjet printer that can scan, copy, fax and print. The printer is targetted at home and small offices. The manufacturer claims low cost prints and laser quality prints at laser speed. Not bad!

The printer works on thermal inkjet technology and is capable of producing monochrome prints at 2400 X 1200 dpi and 4800 X 1200 dpi for colour prints. It can work with a number of media including envelopes, index cards, 4″ X 6″ amongst others.

Print speed is good as per the claims. Monochrome speed is 33 pages per minute while colour is slightly slower at 30 pages per minute. Although we have laser-like prints and speed, a positive aspect is that printer does not have a warm up time. But, at the same time, cost of prints may not be in the same range as lasers.

This Lexmark printer comes with Ethernet and Wi-Fi by default. This is a good addition in today’s world. USB and PictBridge ports are available as well.

The Lexmark Prevail Pro705 carries tons of usable features and surprisingly carries a smaller price tag at around £100. If the cost of prints can stay low, we have no doubt that the printer will make it big.

I’ve been finding that, in fact, it does need a warm-up period – mostly for the black cartridge/printhead. It’s been in the teens (F not C) the last few weeks outside and the house is cooler with lower humidity (<50%) – don't know if that means anything. I just wasted 3 4×6 photo papers,…waited 10 minutes,…then got a good one. Wife has been telling me similar stories. Other than that it has nice features and quality prints. WiFi is a breeze to setup.
