The concept of working on a remote computer can be extended to printing a document onto a remote printer situated miles away. This concept has been realized by a freeware called PrinterAnywhere (PA), available for download and usage free of cost. PA is a small piece of software that needs to be installed on computers that intends to print on remote shared printers or would like to share the local printer. With the common interface at the local and remote ends, the printers get shared and remote printing over the internet becomes a reality.
This is just the right application if you would like to print photos for your grand old family who live elsewhere. Or even, if you are at work, and have some printing jobs to be done at home, it can be easily triggered at work.
All one needs to do, is to download the software and have it installed on the designated PCs. Create a free account on PA website and log into the account through the software which sits in your system tray. Bingo! That is it. From a remote computer that has PA installed, start sending print commands on the shared printer which can be recognised by its unique name.
The destination PC and printer needs not be turned on to receive printing jobs. The PA server would save the printing jobs online and will be beamed to your computer when its turned on.
On the security front, the shared printers and documents to be printed can be encrypted with a username and password.
This is a neat software to easily configure printers on a network. But, on the downside, you need internet at all times for it to work. Maybe, if it can be accommodated to work on intranet or a LAN, the concept would be fitting for all purposes. Yet, this is a good find.
