Canon is a brand majorly known for its inkjet line of printers, especially the photo ones. Their entry into the laser printer market has thrown up mixed results with their previous launches and the latest one, i-SENSYS LBP7200Cdn hopes to carry the brand further into the new line of business.
This printer is a compact colour laser printer that has all the basic features that is needed for a laser printer. It’s clothed in white and gray. It’s network ready but not Wi-Fi.
Printing quality for a Canon has always been good, whether you deal with inkjet printers or laser printers. Monochrome prints are dark, sharp and well formed, although the resolution is pretty standard at 600 X 600 dpi. Colour prints are equally good with bright colours and a wide range of shades. Surprisingly, the photo prints fared more than what is expected of a colour laser printer. It’s true-to-life and one could hardly tell the difference between a photo print from a photo printer and this printer.
Claimed print speeds for both monochrome and colour are 20 pages per minute. When tested, the actuals were pretty close at 16 pages per minute – this is unusual in the printer world.
The cost of prints were on the higher side. A monochrome print including the price of paper at 0.7p stood to around 3.9p, while the colour print was far more expensive at 16.5p.
This is a good ideal printer for all environments until you get to the business part of things. It has standard features but an exorbitant price (for prints) is something that could bother most buyers.
