Review : Canon Selphy CP790

selphy-cp790Canon Selphy CP790 is a mobile printer that works on thermal technology. It is one of Canon’s ultra-mobile printers to offer printing on the fly. Best possible resolution is 300 X 300 dpi. The maximum size paper on which it can print on is postcard size. A 3″ LCD screen is mounted to view images before printing and to navigate the menu.

Print quality was generally good. Skin tones turned out natural and so did subject in the foreground. But, many details in the background were lost to the excessive yellow the outputs exhibited.

Print speed claimed is 47 seconds for 4″ X 6″ sized paper. When we put the printer to test, it was more or less accurate at under 60 seconds.

The paper cartridge alignment is clumsy in terms of ease of replacement. A user needs to juggle a lot of parts before he or she can put the cartridge where it belongs.

The Selphy CP790 does not use Canon printer cartridges, as the imbibed technology, thermal, leverages on special thermal paper, which prints when exposed to heat.

The printer can be purchased directly from the manufacturer and it costs £133.43 inc VAT.
