Epson’s latest photo printer, Stylus Photo PX800FW is a state-of-the-art multi-function printer that can copy and scan along with regular and photo printing. The manufacturer claims that the prints from this printer exceeds lab quality. It has all the bells and whistles of any latest photo printer in the market such as Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, PictBridge port, memory card readers amongst others.
Epson is never known for its text prints and this one lives up to the expectations. The printer displays average text prints with visible jaggedness and the lack of proper black colour in its prints. Colour printing follows suit with visible banding under the yellow gamut. Otherwise, colour prints were fairly better than its black counterparts.
Photo printing was a different story altogether, PX800FW displayed amazing performance with a considerable amount of depth and details visible to the naked eye. Epson lived up to the claims that it had made for the photo prints by reproducing the closest replica to the digital images.
Epson claims that the printing speed is at 31 pages per minute for monochrome and 26 pages per minute for colour, but, upon conducting tests, it was found that the figures were way off. Monochrome printing tests revealed that on an average, 8 pages per printed per minute for monochrome and 6 pages per minute for colour in draft. While there is a huge gap in the claimed and real speeds, these printing speeds are still acceptable. However, photo printing speeds were lightning quick at 21 seconds per 4″ X 6″ photograph, which is the fastest photo printer we have seen over the years.
Cost per print for this printer were on the higher side though. It was seen that a monochrome print would cost around 2.5 p including the price of paper while a colour print is estimated to cost around 10.2p.
Epson Stylus Photo PX800FW is a good printer as far as the photo prints are concerned. Print quality is excellent and is delivered at an unbelievable rate. A great printer to have if you are looking for photo quality and photo centric features.
