Review : HP Colour Laserjet CP1518ni

HP’s compact colour laser printer, Laserjet CP1518ni is probably one of the smallest laser printers around. The printer is smaller than most inkjet printers in the market. Its sheer size makes the printer more apt for personal use rather than office use.

With advantages of small size come other associated disadvantages. The paper tray has been sacrificed to carry a maximum of 150 pages rather than the standard 250 pages in laser printers.

A review carried out by PC Mag shows that the text monochrome prints were excellent. Colour graphics fared well, but some minor dithering in the form of subtle patterns were observed. Photo printing is decent but not comparable to the professional photo printers manufactured by Canon or Epson. Photos printed were just short of true photo quality due to the dithering that was observed during colour graphic tests.

Speed of printing is probably one of the worst in this segment of printers. It printed monochrome prints at 12ppm and the colour graphics at 8ppm. This speed is slower than some of the inkjet printers in the market. Photo printing speed is good at 32 seconds per 4” X 6” photograph.

The HP Laserjet CP1518ni is priced at £200 which seems a little too steep for a printer of its caliber. As the company claims, monochrome prints cost 1.6p and colour prints at 8.5p.

If you are looking for a colour printing solution that is compact, quality of prints not that important and don’t care about the cost of the printer, then this printer is just for you. If any or none of these criteria match, keep reading Wire Sherpa for more reviews.
