The latest entry level colour laser printer from HP, Laserjet CP1515n has made quite a buzz within a short span of time. It’s the most basic form of a colour laser printer that can do nothing else other than printing. This networking feature on this printer is probably the only thing worth mentioning.
It’s time to put it to test and check out the mettle this one’s made of. As we had mentioned earlier, the lack of decent paper capacity and the absence of a second tray could very well hold against it. Duplex printing option is also missing from this printer along with a host of other popular features; but it’s a start-up printer after all.
Document print quality for both monochrome and colour is as perfect as it can get, even at a lowly 600 dpi. Small and large sized fonts, curves, stylized fonts and diagonals are clean, sharp and uniform. Colour graphics and photos turned out decent for an entry level printer; much to our surprise.
Printing speeds were lower than the claimed rates as always. Claimed monochrome printing rates are at 12ppm but actuals observed on a 20-page test displayed a speed of 10ppm. Claimed colour rates are at 8ppm and reality showed that it’s just behind at 6ppm.
Do not expect the price of printing for this (any HP) printer to be low and this one is no different. Calculating the costs of the toner and paper which are the only consumables, it was found that a black print costs 2.9p while colour is way higher at 12p.
If you care about the quality of prints and not the add-on features, go for HP Laserjet CP1515n.
