Lexmark’s latest monochrome laser addition T650dn is a performer on paper and it’s time to put it to test. The manufacturer claims sharp and precise prints with a best resolution of 1200 X 1200 dpi. Printing speed is excellent at 43 pages per minute for letter sized prints. With huge paper trays, it is a hardworker with monthly duty cycle of 200,000 pages.
The printer’s design looks ancient, and the size mammoth. The massive size could be attributed towards high paper capacity and automatic duplex printing feature.
The quality of text prints from this printer is as professional as one can get. However business graphics such as logos turned out OK with some visible banding in the darker areas. Photo printing also showed significant amount of banding in the darker areas, and loss of finer details were evident.
When tested for speed, T650dn ejected prints at an impressive 34 pages per minute which is probably still the fastest in this segment. Unlike other printers where duplex printing speeds are halved with respect to normal printing speeds, this printer displays a good duplex printing speed at 27 sides per minute.
Leveraging upon Lexmark’s high capacity cartridges, the cost per print was estimated to be at 1.88p including the price of paper at 0.7p. This is good but not the best, as there are some other printers that have trumped this price quite easily.
Lexmark T650dn is a good printer to have for offices and enterprises. It excels with its performance and the features available on it such as print-hold and walk up printing gives the printer the edge over others. The cost of printing is on the lower side to up its ante.
