A rival to the legendary PoGo was born earlier this year with Planon PrintStik PS910. At the time of its release, it was probably the only other truly mobile printer competing with Polaroid’s brainchild.
PS910 is a thermal printer and is capable of printing A4 size. It has a battery to provide ultra-mobility and can connect through Bluetooth technology and USB port. The printer costs £150 while a set of three A4 paper cassettes cost £5. A variant, PS950 comes with a hard carrying case and a car charger for an extra price.
Setting up the printer is simple. Just plug in the printer to the computer and run the driver CD. To run over USB, another application needs to be fired for a second set of driver files to be installed. If you plan on using the device over Bluetooth, skip the second driver installation.
Comparing the prints to an inkjet printer, PS910 fared poorly. Text appeared OK but the curves and lines weren’t as sharp as other semi-mobile inkjet printers. Photos were average as well with noticeable dithering and irregular shading in the output.
Speed of printing is not one of PS910’s strengths. Each A4 page takes a full minute to print. We do not have other printers in this segment to compare with, remember that PoGo does not print on an A4 sized paper.
If you are planning on replacing your desktop unit with this one, you may be highly disappointed with its performance. This printer cannot replace a desktop printer but can be a great companion for those who print on the move.
