Samsung has unveiled a new inkjet printer SCX-1650 that has a unique direct USB feature that is generally not available on other printers. The direct USB feature is on the same lines of PictBridge and memory card. Users can plug in USB devices and take prints without the intervention of a PC. Not only printing, this feature also enables users to save scanned images on USB devices.
SCX-1650 prints at a speed of 30ppm for black and 24ppm for colour. It is surprising to note that the printing speed of colour prints is faster than that of black. This printer can print at a maximum resolution of 4800X1200 dpi. It also connects to PCs wireless with the help of Bluetooth technology. It has an integrated PictBridge port on it as well.
This printer claims to have a software program called SmarThru which lets users send scanned images via e-mail without the help of a PC. I suspect that the printer gets connected to a dedicated website through a telephone cable and the website enables the images scanned to be sent as an e-mail. More details are yet to be revealed by Samsung. It sounds like a service I wrote about earlier this week.
The SCX-1650 features an ID card copying button. I am clueless about this feature and my research on this feature also came empty handed.
The SCX-1650 is priced at £65 if made available in the UK.
