One of the recent offerings from Samsung, ML-1630W is believed to have been designed after the popular German piano, Steinway. The outlook of the printer is similar to the musical instrument with a black glossy finish but the contents are way different; as expected of course.
The ML-1630W is a mono laser printer with advanced networking features such as Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity along with an additional USB port located on the back of the printer. Power and job cancel touch buttons along with a 13 X 5 blue LED make up the controls on this printer.
The printer comes with a 100-sheet tray which is unusually small in capacity than most mono laser printers in the market. It was found that the printer can hold 90 sheets at a maximum limit.
Samsung claims that the printer’s printing speed is at 16ppm. Carrying out a 20-page test yielded a print speed of 13ppm which is decent for a mono laser printer.
Print quality is excellent. Text print is sharp and precise with no signs of jagged edges or curves. Graphics are top notch too; neither banding nor any other irregularities were observed and the printer produced an accurate replica of the actual image. Photo printers fared well surprisingly with little banding and smooth transitions from dark to light tones.
The printer is a silent worker as well. It measured a maximum of 54 dBA during paper feeds which is excellent for a startup mono laser printer.
After a bunch of positives, here’s a negative that has the potential of taking consumers away from this product; cost per print. The only consumable of this Samsung laser printer, a 2,000-page combined drum and toner cartridge costs a whopping £56 and the cost per print is estimated to be at 3.6p per print. This is obnoxiously expensive and does make up for the low cost of printer, as far as Samsung is concerned.
Cunning Samsung has put a small price of printer at £100 knowing that consumers will have to make regular purchases of consumables which would even out the profit lost on the printer.
Verdict : ML-1630W is a great printer producing professional prints silently but at a price. If you are not bothered about the price, this one is ideal for you else we suggest that you may look elsewhere for cheaper alternatives.
