A survey was conducted to determine the percentage of digital prints that takes place at homes. The survey concluded that 48% of the total digital prints are made at home. There is an estimated 7.7 billion digital prints in the past year. This is a significant dip from last year where home printing stood at 64%. This is surprising provided that printer companies have made significant price drops of printers and ink cartridges.

It has been estimated that professional printing companies charge 6 pennies less than the cost of home printing which includes paper, cartridges, electricity etc on an average. Plus, online printers like printplace.com provide 2 day turnaround time which incorporates shipping as well.

It is further revealed that despite the relatively low prices of printers, the products that are tied up with the printers cost much more. For example, the ink and the cartridges can catch a price that is the same with that of popular perfumes. Even the paper you're going to use costs so much. Add to this that the ink often runs out before your home printing job is even finished.

It only makes sense that printing companies are always cheaper than home printing. When these companies buy stationary in bulk, it costs them cheaper and with a lower margin of profits, they can give a much better price to customers.
