The Secret behind HP Photosmarts

The leading printer manufacturer, HP has churned out several successful printers in its timeline and the most popular of them all, the HP photosmart printers that brings life to pictures, is a resultant of a collaboration between HP and Smart Design, a product company based in New York.

When HP started Photosmarts way back in 2002, that was probably the first time a printer was capable of churning out pictures directly from a digital camera. Many critics were full of praise for the technology that might one day doom studios and picture labs around the world.

Walt Mossberg reviewer at The Wall Street Journal, had commented on the photo printing when it started – “HP inkjet printers churn out snapshot-size prints directly from a camera or a memory card, without involving a computer or software at all. These tiny printers have become so popular that people even bring them to parties to print pictures of the revelry right on the spot.”

It is no secret that HP and Smart Design have conducted a series of surveys and researches before coming out with the product. In fact, many believe that HP not only entered a new market but the credit of creating a new maket is theirs.

The challenge as Tom Dair, President of Smart Design puts it was to combine the technology with ease of use to appeal to all members of a family.

HP might have created the market but at present, statistics suggest that Canon with its Pixmas are ruling the market. Yet, the printing giant is not far behind and can throw in an element of surprise under the supervision of VJ.
