Inkjet Printer Colors Printing
Earlier, printing was all in black and while. Now days printing can be done in
various colors with surprising sharpness and quality. If you are using an inkjet
cartridge then you may be having this question in your mind, how many colors can
an inkjet printer can produce?
Like most print processes, you only have a limited selection of inks to use.
However, full color can be derived from three primary colors, Red, Green, and
Blue. Printer inks absorb light to produce different colors. The resulting inks
should then be cyan, magenta and yellow. These color options are available with
most ink jet color printers.
However, it is not easy to produce all the colors. The most used color in
printing is black. Have you ever noticed that separate inkjet cartridge is used
for Black ink and all other colors may have same cartridge…The reason is that
that the colors used in common inkjet printers are not really capable of
producing realistic photo images with quality results. The colors are optimized
for nice saturated primary colors when used independently. The combination of
the three primary colors should be capable of being combined to produce black.
However, incorrect optimization and the pigmentation could turn black in muddy
or brown. Therefore, a separate black ink cartridge is normally used for black
printing.
However, there are some changes that you can do to change your print patter and
quality. If you can vary the ink drop size, you can change the drop spread on
the paper. This can be done by spraying more ink or multiple drops of ink at the
same position. The ink will either spread and make a bigger drop or stay the
same size and become denser. This adjustment can both improve color density and
quality of printing. However, there could be some problem while spraying down
multiple drops on paper at same place as if you draw a large block the paper it
could will curl up and the overall image becomes worse. Hence, this depends on
two key components, the ink and the paper.
Also, inks could either be slow drying or fast drying. They can dry at different
times because of the different dyes used in the ink. They may also not mix how
you expect if you place two colors on top of each other. Scientifically, you
need to get proper balance of surface tension, drying time, viscosity, color and
stability. This is not an easy task.
Another problem that could arise is speed. Spraying two drops in the exact same
place is difficult, unless the head is stationary. You may notice that most
inkjet printers with high resolution mode do a number of passes over the same
place. They usually only print while are going in one direction for improved
mechanical control. The repeated movements do allow them to spray more ink on
one place and improve on resolution and color enhancement.
With time, the water based inks are improving. So, we can hope for better
quality printing in future.
