Apple Laserwriter 16 600 PS Printer Review

Expert review of the Apple Laserwriter 16 600 PS printer 16 November 2012

Our Verdict:

The Apple Laserwriter 16 600 PS was one of the first laser printers in the mass market. Introduced by Macintosh during the early 90's, this printer features built-in PostScript. For connectivity, the Apple Laserwriter 16 600 PS offers LocalTalk and Ethernet plus a parallel port. The Apple 16 600 PS also boasts a minimum life span of 450,000 pages. The trouble with Apple Laserwriter 16 600 PS is it is a bit large and bulky. Slow print speed is another disadvantage.

Design

The box-like Apple Laserwriter 16 600 PS laser printer has an output tray on top and paper trays at the bottom. The Laserwriter 16 600 PS printer has a maximum print resolution of 600 x 600 dpi and can print as fast as 17 pages per minute. The Apple Laserwriter 16 600 PS measures 12.1 x 16.7 x 16.9 inches and weighs 40 lbs. It has a ROM size of 4 MB and RAM sizes of 4, 8, and 16 MB. It runs on the AMD 29030 processor.

Advantages

Workgroups can share the Apple Laserwriter 16 600 PS monochrome laser printer as it offers Ethernet and LocalTalk. The Laserwriter 16 600 PS printer delivers good quality black and white prints, from text documents to greyscale images. It is easy to maintain and running costs are low. The Apple 16 600 PS can use HP toner cartridges as well as cheaper compatible Apple Laserwriter 16 600 PS printer cartridges for bigger savings.

Disadvantages

The Apple Laserwriter 16 600 PS monochrome laser printer is quite large and bulky for small offices. Because it is an old model, this black and white laser printer has already been surpassed by newer models in terms of paper handling capacity, print speed, print quality and functionality.
