Aimed at small office and home office users, the Brother DCP-7040 is a fast printer and copier. With an automatic document feeder, this all-in-one device promises increased productivity, but the lack of media card slots, a fax machine, and the absence of colour printing prove that users could do better by buying another multifunction printer with better features at the same price.

Design

Integrated with B/W laser technology, the Brother DCP-7040 is designed for the serious office that requires fuss-free document printing and copying. The flatbed design of the scanner and copier includes an automatic document feeder that can take up to 35 sheets of paper. The printer's consumables consist of a drum unit and a toner cartridge, and the entire machine runs on 16MB of memory. The DCP-7040 is rather compact at 12 inches tall, 15.6 inches deep, and 16.9 inches wide.

Advantages

The Brother DCP7040 can scan in full colour with resolutions of up to 19200x19200 dpi, and users can prefer to scan to OCR, file, image, or email. The package already includes a starter toner cartridge, drum unit, and toner, which guarantee approximately 12,000 printed pages, making them quite high-yield. Print speeds are up to 23 ppm, which is slightly faster than its predecessors. Users can employ the Brother DCP-7040 as a standalone copier.

Disadvantages

Those who require colour printing will be disappointed with the Brother DCP-7040 because it can only print and copy in black-and-white. The standard memory is rather insufficient at only 16MB when compared to others that have at least 32MB of RAM. At 11.07 kg, the Brother DCP-7040 is one of the heaviest, to think that it does not have media card slots and a fax machine. The printer is also quite noisy at 53 dB when copying and 32 dB when idle.
