The Brother HL-2037 monochrome laser printer is a perfect small office desktop printer with excellent quality, low-cost Brother HL-2037 toner supplies and reliable performance. Design

Brother historically has done a great job and making their printers low-profile and compact. This is no exception with the Brother HL-2037. All of this printing power is squeezed into a small footprint of 37 cm width by 36 cm depth. Because of the flat nature of the Brother HL-2037 toner and drum (TN 2005), the height of the unit is only 166 cm tall easily beating any other printer in its class while retaining the necessary paper capacity. A 250 page paper tray is included and is more that sufficient for heavy text printing. The media tray easily accommodates multiple weights of paper including recycled paper and transparencies. A manual slot is available for envelopes and labels.

Advantages

The HL-2037 is easily compatible with both PC and Macintosh computers as well as Linux. Included software for page layout, toner density, quick printing, page size and resources status monitoring are all available. Unlike most competitors in its class, the HL-2037 toner is very inexpensive and can be replaced without replacing the drum unit in the machine. This allows for a much lower printing cost when the drum is scheduled to be replaced only after 10 or more toner replacements. Prints from the Brother HL-2037 can always be expected to be crisp and dark at 600 x 600 dpi. A toner density function is available to adjust the resolution to draft (300 x 300 dpi) for economical toner saving if necessary. Super fine printing at 2,400 x 600 dpi is also available.

Disadvantages

For a small office printer, the 18 page per minute print speed is decent. As compared to some other industry inkjet and laser printers that offer print speeds of up to 23 pages per minute, this may seem rather slow. The first page is printed in as low as 10 seconds though which is only a couple seconds slower than the competition. For the price difference in the initial investment and the lower HL-2037 toner cost, this is a worthy trade. Multi-side printing is also an option, but can only be done manually.
