Our Verdict:  

Brother HL-2170 toner cartridges 

A high-quality laser printer from Brother, the HL-2170 mono printer is suitable for the average home or small office. The machine produces excellent monochrome prints at decent speeds and boasts lower operating costs than most of its competitors. The Brother HL-2170 is very compact and can easily be operated even by first time users. It delivers high quality text prints, but graphics quality is average at best.

Design

The Brother HL-2170 measures 14x14x6 inches, so it’s easy to integrate into small work spaces. The machine is also fairly light at 15 pounds, which means it is easy to carry and move around when the need arises. The Brother HL 2170 printer does not have any LCD screens, but instead has a large ‘Go’ button and 3 indicator LEDs. It only supports USB as standard interface, but those who need a networkable printer can upgrade to the HL 2170 W version.

Advantages

Some advantages of using the Brother HL-2170 include quick print speed (23 ppm) and high resolution text print output that remains sharp even to the smallest fonts. The machine is compact and well built, and will last a long time. Low toner price and running costs also make this printer a good choice for budget users.

Disadvantages

The Brother HL-2170, however, is not at par with other printers in the same range when it comes to graphics printing. In fact, there are many inkjets that can print better graphics than this unit. Still it’s a good match for those who do a lot of text-only document printing.
