Brother HL-5140 toner cartridges 

The Brother HL-5140 is a monochromatic laser printer with a durable exterior, designed for high-performance home or office use. In addition to the standard printer features, the HL-5140 allows quick and easy compatibility with legacy office applications. It also offers a 250 sheet paper input capacity, with room for expansion. For highly demanding office and home work, the Brother HL-5140 offers a terrific set of features, efficient performance, and at a reasonable cost. Brother HL-5140 toner cartridges are available for purchase on Cartridge Save at a low price.

Design

Shipping with 16MB of built in memory, and room for up to 144MB, the Brother HL-5140 has slightly less memory than what would be preferred, yet it's open-ended design allows for much expansion. As Brother does not sell extra memory, SD-RAM must be bought separately from a third-party source, yet the average user will find that the amount of memory shipped with the HL-5140 is sufficient. Expansion would be required, however, to support larger print jobs over a smaller network. The HL-5140 seems to have been designed with easy setup in mind, with the only steps being installing the software and drivers, and hooking up the print drum and Brother HL-5140 toner. In addition, the quick-setup guide included with the printer is clear and easily understandable.

Advantages

A very fast printer, the Brother HL-5140 is able to print 16.5 pages per minute, outperforming many more expensive laser printers such as the Lexmark E321, at 15.1 pages per minute, as well as the Dell P1500, at 12.9 pages per minute. In terms of the quality of text, the HL-5140's printing is flawlessly legible, even down to 2-point font sizes.

Disadvantages

Printed text can sometimes be too light, yet this is a minor issue. In addition, flaws such as horizontal and vertical banding occur when gradients are printed, which could be a problem when graphic quality is a priority. When printing photographic images, shadow quality is not maintained, and can sometimes turn out too dark.
