Our Verdict:  

Brother HL-5270D toner cartridges 

With an automatic duplexer and fast print speeds, the Brother HL-5270D is a practical choice for basic printing tasks in a small office. Brother integrated the best specs into this small but efficient printer, but it only prints in monochrome and may be outdated for newer operating systems.



Design

This box-type monochromatic printer is integrated with electro photographic technology that runs on a 266 MHz processor with 32MB of RAM. The control panel lies on the left-hand corner of the Brother HL-5270D and its centrepiece is the 1-line, 16-digit, and 3-colour LCD screen on top, with buttons for scrolling through the menus, setting the controls, reprinting, and cancelling jobs. The printer is quite heavy at 10 kg and bulky at 10.2 inches tall, 15.1 inches deep, and 15.5 inches wide.

Advantages

The Brother HL 5270D is often praised for its speed. It can print up to 28 ppm on A4 and 30 ppm on letter-sized media. The built-in auto duplexer helps users save time and resources. Printouts come out clean and crisp because of the 1200 dpi resolution. Printer status can be viewed on-screen or through the control panel's LCD display. Users can easily cancel or reprint jobs on-board. The Brother HL-5270D can be made to function faster with expandable RAM at up to 544MB.

Disadvantages

Many users run into compatibility problems with the HL-5270D, especially those using operating systems newer than Windows XP and Mac OS 10.2.4. The paper feed and output trays limit the types and sizes of media that can be used with the Brother HL5270D. The printer looks bulky, too, and when printing, it can be noisy by emitting 53 dB(A) of sound. It can be difficult to view the status of the Brother HL-5270D with its small LCD screen.
