Our Verdict:  

Brother HL-5380DN toner cartridges 

A good match for any standard office, the Brother HL-5380DN is a monochrome workhorse, offering a maximum print resolution of up to 1200x1200 dpi. The machine is also compact at 15x15x10 inches, making it applicable to any small working environment. It is a good addition to an existing network set up, although the Brother HL-5380DN is still only limited to black and white printing, a step behind other laser printers that can produce vibrant colour prints.

Design

The Brother HL-5380DN is compact and weighs approximately 21 pounds, making it easy to set up and move from place to place. The standard 32 MB internal memory can be upgraded to 544 MB should printing needs increase. Even the standard 300-sheet paper tray can be upgraded to 800 sheets, making this device suitable for growing companies. The Brother HL-5380DN can be connected via parallel port or USB. Ethernet or wireless network set up is easy.

Advantages

The Brother HL-5380DN uses high-yield print cartridges. Toners are not very expensive to replace. It prints at a rate of 30 ppm and can handle a wide range of print media, thanks to its 50-sheet multimedia tray.

Disadvantages

The Brother HL-5380DN can only print black and white. Users complain that it slows down when in ‘duplex print’ mode. The quality of black and white photo prints is acceptable, but text and graphics can be a little on the light side compared to output of other models in the same range.
