Our Verdict:
The Brother MFC-7840W is an excellent printer for the small to medium sized business that requires print speeds of up to 23 pages per minute. This laser monochrome printer can print in a resolution of up to 2,400 x 600 dpi. Faxing is done at speeds of 33.6 Kbps and also includes fax forwarding, automatic redial, dual access, and auto fax reduction. Copies can be reduced 25 percent or increased up to 400 percent. Scanning can be done at a optical resolution of up to 600 x 2,400 dpi.
Design
This printer is decked out in an elegant black enclosure that has dimensions of 42.92 cm in width, 39.62 cm in depth, and a height of 30.48 cm. It is also very transportable at a weight of only 11.11 kg. The Brother MFC-7840W toner printer has a 250 sheet input capacity, but does not come with optional cassettes for more paper. The output tray on this printer can hold up to 100 sheets. This printer also uses either USB or Ethernet as its standard interface. For storage, the Brother MFC-7840W uses 32 MB that cannot be upgraded due to a lack of expansion slots. It is able to run at 460 watts and reduces power consumption down to 10 watts in sleep mode.
Advantages
The Brother MFC-7840W also comes with a mobile device printing application that allows users to print from an Android smartphone. This printer will put out a reasonable monthly duty cycle of 10,000 pages if it is pushed to the limit. Brother MFC-7840W toner is can produce 1,500 pages before needing to be replaced, but higher capacity Brother MFC-7840W toner is available with a 2,600 page yield. The Brother MFC-7840W also comes with 1200 IQ to enhance images and reproduce colours accurately and can also be connected wirelessly with a built-in 802.11b/g wireless network card that is installed.
Disadvantages
This printer is quite complete but lacks colour printing. Another minor disadvantage one can find with this printer is its lack of duplex printing, which allows printing on both sides of a document. However, the Brother MFC-7840W is moderately priced and is worth it for its rapid printing power.
