The Brother MFC-8870DW is a hardworking laser multifunction printer designed to meet the demands of small to medium-sized workgroups. It comes with built-in Ethernet and 802.11b/g wireless interfaces and an automatic duplexer, but some users may find the black-and-white print technology to be outdated and incompatible to their needs.

Design

This heavyweight multifunction printer is designed for basic office tasks like printing, copying, and scanning documents, and transmitting faxes. It runs on 32MB of RAM, with B/W laser print technology, and consumables that consist of a separate drum unit and toner cartridge. The standard interfaces of the Brother MFC-8870DW include USB 2.0, parallel, Ethernet, and an 802.11b/g Wi-Fi option. The fax feature is speedy because of the 33.6Kbps Super G3 modem, while the scanner with an auto duplexer can accommodate colour documents and images.

Advantages

The Brother MFC 8870DW is praised for fast copying and printing with speeds of up to 30 ppm. Disadvantages

This printer is not a good choice for users that need to print colourful and vivid graphics and pictures with their documents because it uses only B/W laser technology. Copying and faxing is only possible in monochrome, too. The Brother MFC-8870DW is also criticised for being noisy, emitting sound at up to 55 dB when copying and even louder when printing. The device itself is heavy at 15.33 kg and bulky at 17.7 inches deep, 18.7 inches tall, and 20.9 inches wide. The Brother MFC-8870DW does not support direct-printing options.
